Detection Technology (“Deetee”) is an awesome X-ray imaging products manufacturer. Their core competence is designing and producing X-ray components and full products for security, medical and industrial applications.
Deetee wanted to renew their X-View software, which is used for analyzing the X-ray images.
The original software was made a long time ago and had evolved alongside the product development. During the years the functionalities had expanded and the usability of the software had suffered.
Deetee gave us the chance to redesign the UX for the next generation X-View software.
New complex domain
We were completely new to X-ray imaging domain before commencing the research phase of the project.
In a very short time our UX designer was able to understand the use cases of the software and the essential technology related to analyzing X-ray images.
We spent time in the customers lab, making actual X-ray imaging, getting to know what are the most important functionalities for the software. We also researched how the software was likely to be used by the different customer groups.
This took less than two weeks.
Codemate’s UX Designer first defined the user-flow and categories for all the functionalities, in close cooperation with Deetee’s specialists.
Then she designed the content for each view and drafted mock-ups for review.
After the functionalities found their final places, final layout images were designed.
We delivered icons, guidelines and other resources for the client to commence development with their own team.
The end result was an installable desktop application.
We found a lot of similarities between the X-View software and photo editing software such as Photoshop, and used that for inspiration.
The new software is much more logical and the first-time use is made simpler.
We were excited to familiarize ourselves with the high-end X-ray imaging technology with this great company!
